Web browsers store password for frequent references. If anyhow they get corrupted, all login support from browser is lost. To prevent such case one should take backup of passwords. It also helps while migrating from one system to another. In case of Firefox there is an add-on which helps in backup and restores passwords which are stored in the browser. The add-on is Password Exporter.
Backup And Restore Saved Passwords in Firefox
To backup and restore saved passwords in Firefox just follow the below mentioned process.
- To extract the passwords first of all you need to download and install the add-on named Password Exporter.
- Once installed just click on Firefox > Options and then select the security tab.

- There you will find an option of importing and exporting saved passwords. This option was not present previously.

- Click on the option which will open a separate dialog box providing different options of exporting and importing the passwords. Passwords can be exported in the form of an XML file or CSV file.

- Besides passwords, disabled hosts can also be imported or exported. The usernames and passwords can be clouded while exporting them from browser.
- While exporting the passwords, you will be given option to choose file format and a warning will be displayed mentioning that exported passwords can be used by anyone else even if they are clouded.

- Once you are done exporting passwords, a dialog box will appear confirming the process completion. It also indicated the number of passwords exported.
So this is how one can use Password Exported to backup saved passwords in Firefox. To restore passwords on a different machine, just install Password Exporter in Firefox and then import passwords using the file which was exported from the other machine.
